I was fortunate recently to attend the Bilderberg International Goalkeeping Conference in Holland. It was a great opportunity to see some of the top goalkeeper coaches in the world run sessions and present ideas and discuss their training philosophies.
Presenting at the conference, organized by renowned Dutch GK Coach, Maarten Arts, were Claudio Filippi from Juventus, Luis Llopis from Real Madrid, Hugo Oliveira from Benfica and Christophe Lollichon from Chelsea. Each coach conducted a field session and a lecture. Topics included: Shot stopping, 1v1’s, dealing with crosses and reaction saves.
There were some interesting ideas and training concepts, the Spanish style was very explosive, very little footwork and lots of reps. The Portuguese style was more calculated and thoughtful and the English style was more combative in nature, especially when dealing with crosses.

I’m excited to use some of the knowledge that I gained in my training with GK One goalkeepers, and I’m looking forward to stay in touch with the other participants at the conference.
